Recap of “Overview of FamilySearch.org and Search Strategies”

We had a great turn out to my presentation for Las Villas del Norte Genealogy Group. This was the first time ever that I do a live workshop.

It turned out great, but not what I expected. For whatever reason FamilySearch did not look the same on my laptop as it did at home. Some features were missing and I think it was due to their new roll out on website update. Thus I have some trouble explaining some key things that I wanted to show attendees.

Anyways I had fun! I think I was able to provide a good overview of FamilySearch and its resources to family historians. I also provided methods of researching to try and get better results. I also spoke about issues in searches when it comes to Hispanic last names.

The real treasure was the input from attendees and how they research. Other great topics were discussed.

I also emailed all of our members the links to a great hand out by FamilySearch and also a webinar that they had on how to do better searches on their website.

If you did not attend, here is the video so you can watch it.
