Early Settlers of Reynosa: Joseph Barrera and Maria Magdalena de Tijerina

Joseph Barrera and Maria Magdalena de Tijerina

One of the early settling families of Reynosa, Tamaulipas, Mexico is that of Joseph Barrera and Maria Magdalena de Tijerina. They were originally from Monterrey and are listed in the 1750 census of Reynosa.

Joseph's full name as it appears in his 1744 marriage is, Joseph Phelis Barrera and his parents are Miguel Barrera and Francisca Ruiz.

The parents of Maria Magdalena de Tijerina are Pedro de Tijerina and Nicolasa Treviño. It is interesting to note that both are listed as mestizo in the marriage record but on the census record both are listed as Spaniards.

Below is the copy/transcription of the 1750 census entry and the names of their children and whom they married to. For more descendants of theirs please visit our Community Family Tree.
